The Midwives

“It is not just the making of babies, but the
making of mothers, that midwives see as the miracle of birth.”

– Barbara Katz Rothman, sociologist

About the Midwives

Barbara Rawlings and Lori Sabin have been working together since 2012 when Lori joined the practice as a student, then as midwifery partners since 2014 when Lori became a licensed midwife.  We are truly a great team  and are thrilled to be able to serve our community through offering women and families options for birth outside the hospital following the Midwives Model of Care.

Our intention and desire is for both of us to attend your birth, which almost always happens. On the rare occasion that we are not both available, we bring another skilled assistant.  We are also dedicated to training midwives and regularly have a student in our practice.

Midwives Model Of Care

The Midwives Model of Care is
based on the fact that pregnancy and birth are normal life processes

The Midwives Model of Care
includes:

Monitoring the physical,
psychological and social well-being of the mother throughout the
childbearing cycle;

Providing the mother with
individualized education, counseling and prenatal care, continuous
hands-on assistance during labor and delivery, and postpartum
support;

Minimizing technological
interventions;

Identifying and referring
women who require obstetrical attention

The application of this
woman-centered model of care has been proven to:

Reduce the incidence of birth
injury, trauma and cesarean section.
